    According to Chicago Police, the shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Pratt Boulevard. Gorman was walking with a group of friends near the pier at Tobey Prinz Beach when an unidentified male approached on foot, displayed a firearm, and opened fire in the group’s direction.

    Gorman was struck in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

    The suspect, described as wearing a face covering, fled the area and has not been identified. Police and Loyola Campus Safety officials are continuing to investigate.

    Loyola Campus Safety issued a crime alert at approximately 4:36 a.m., notifying students of the incident. Later that morning, university officials said there was no ongoing threat to the campus community.

    In response to the tragedy, Loyola announced that a community reflection and prayer vigil would be held at Madonna della Strada Chapel at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

    The university also made counseling and wellness resources available to students, including support services in Mertz Hall and through Campus Ministry and the Wellness Center.

    In a statement, President Reed urged the campus community to come together in support and remembrance.

    “Please join me in prayer … to intercede for our grieving community and for the family of our beloved student Sheridan,” the message read.
